How Much Time Does it Take to Build a New Home? Part 2 of a 2 Part Article

The exterior of your new home is almost complete. Now it is time to move on to the interior finishing. This is the most exciting part of building a new home because now what you imagined your new home would look becomes reality.

Hardwood flooring and underlay will take 3 days to a week to install depending on how big your home is and how many rooms you plan to put hardwood in.

Installing the drywall and taping it so you will have seamless walls will take an average of 2 weeks to complete.

The walls need to be primed in preparation for the final paint color. This will take on average 2 days depending on how many rooms you have.

The interior trim around doorways and the doors themselves; along with cabinets in kitchen, baths and laundry room will take 1 to 2 weeks to finish.

The final painting will take 2 to 3 weeks.

Other trims such as Formica, ceramic tile or vinyl floors will take a day to a week to install. Any trimming out, finishing the plumbing, mechanical, and electrical and hooking up the utilities will take 1 to 2 weeks.

Cleanup will take 2 to 3 days.

Carpet and/or hardwood floor finishing will take 3 days to a week to complete

Concreting your driveway or laying pavers will take 1-3 days depending on the size of the driveway and if there are any additional parking pads to be installed.

The landscaping should take anywhere from a day to 3 days depending on how big your property is and how many trees and shrubs you are installing.

Once the final inspections and surveys are complete it is time to close out any construction loans or interim loans. You should be able to close on your new home within 1 to 3 days.
