Invermere has long been one of the most popular towns in British Columbia's Columbia Valley. Nestled between the Purcell and Rocky Mountains, Invermere has grown from being a small, quaint trading post to a popular destination for travellers and homebuyers. Because of its' scenic vistas and near-endless list of travel destinations-both on and off the beaten path-people have been purchasing land and housing in Invermere as a way of having their own home-away-from-home. However, none have been more attracted to real estate in Invermere than Albertans.
Invermere has long been a summer getaway for Albertans, and it is easy to understand why. Most of Alberta is prairie flatlands, and the dramatic change in environment is often a stimulant for Albertans who are bored with grassy plains, wheat fields and grain elevators. The steep slopes, snow-capped mountains, and abundance of wildlife and nature trails appeal to their sense of adventure. Invermere is less than an hour away from two world-class hot springs, Radium and Fairmont; the Panorama ski resort; and seven 18-hole golf courses. It is also near the edge of Kootenay National Park, which gives visitors the chance to explore wild and natural Crown land, as well as the world-renowned Bugaboo glaciers.
During the 1950s, only a few Albertans owned cottages in Invermere, but the town experienced a huge leap in popularity among tourists-especially from nearby Calgary-during the 1980s. During Alberta's economic boom in the decade prior to the recession, many families and professionals were able to afford second houses or summer cottages, and Invermere was the perfect place to purchase. It is interesting to note that now 70 percent of all the real estate in Invermere is owned by Albertans.
During the summer months, from July to August, the population of the town and surrounding areas inflates from 5,500 to 45,000 as those who purchased cottages, summer homes, or other real estate บ้านมือสอง กรุงเทพ in Invermere come flooding in for summer vacation. It is a common sight to see a mob of red and white Alberta license plates in the Sobey's parking lot on a hot August afternoon, or find a swathe of customers lined up at Gerry's Gelati. This sudden peak in population has caused some issues for the local economy, however. Because of the influx of customers, businesses cannot keep up with demand, but if they stock up and hire staff for the peak seasons, they risk having to shut down in winter. The challenge is finding a way to attract visitors outside of the traditional July to August season. The market for real estate in Invermere is currently filled with summer condos and cabins, and so the next big push is into 55-plus retirement units for a May to October summer residence, rather than just a weekend getaway.
With the town expanding, Invermere is looking to the future to keep its' economy healthy and its' residents-both permanent and temporary-satisfied. Invermere in BC's Columbia Valley, has one of the most unique locations in Canada, making it a popular destination for those looking to invest in a summer home. Albertans in particular are attracted to real estate in Invermere because of its close proximity to many fantastic amenities and its stunning natural beauty.
