Growing Influence of Indian Women in Real Estate

A recent survey about search habits conducted by Facebook highlights that women in India between 18-34 years are the most involved in making decisions about buying property. The survey found out that 30% of women are the lead decision maker with regards to property matters in the family and 50% are joint decision makers within their families.

The strides made by women in all spheres have reshaped the country, today they are starting to reap the rewards of their hard work. Educated, well-read, empowered and employed in good companies reaching high positions; a new class of women are changing the dynamics of the country.

The growing influence and affluence of Indian Women is changing consumer markets beyond recognition and is a major factor in making India wealthier, but this effect is being magnified by changing social attitudes, better access to education and a new breed of women entrepreneurs who are bold enough to make their own decisions.

A young woman might start conservatively, and be in a position to invest in property by the time she is in her 30s as she feels that an investment in property whether residential or commercial is the first step to secure her from there she moves on to different investments like equities, travel, education for children, planning for her parents etc.

Women are emerging as decision makers when it comes to buying property, with changing demographics, rising incomes, however women in emerging economies still face challenges in their pursuit of equality, despite all the progress made so far. The need of the hour is to aggressively pursue the girl education program so that women are empowered even further to step up and make their own decisions.

Emerging markets have mirrored the growth and growth patterns of developed countries, contribution of women in consumption in various sectors in the western world is well documented and it is not unlikely that they will be replicated in emerging markets too. Women in emerging nations are aiming higher and they represent one of the highest growth opportunities for an investor today, especially in the real estate sector where young enterprising women are making smart decisions on investing in real estate.

Women have been the unsung authors of India`s economic growth and the future brings endless opportunities that will give them an even greater canvass to fulfil their potential.
