Drafts & Ventilation Problems - Drafts are usually easy to fix by applying caulking and better seals, and by reglazing windows. Ventilation problems are sometimes helped by adding additional attic vents to help regulate the home's heat. Additional windows and fans can help to regulate moisture if moisture is a problem in the home. Overall Poor Condition - Not maintaining a house can result in a home that is in poor condition overall. Evidence of a home that has not been maintained, include: broken ceiling fixtures, peeling paint, broken light fixtures, and outlets that do not work. Keep in mind that damage in a poorly maintained home, often goes beyond cosmetic problems. If gutters and downspouts are not cleaned, water damage to the home and damage to the foundation can result. Pests can also be a problem in poorly maintained homes. Environmental Hazards - Usually home inspectors are not specialized in assessing environmental dangers and a separate environmental inspector will need to check the home for environmental hazards.
