Generally when the decision to sell is made we like to think that it will happen quickly so we can move on so keeping this in mind during the planning process is important.
One of the best ways to do this is to create multi-purpose spaces that not only change as you do but also are able to be used for other uses by future home owners without compromising on what works for you and your family whilst you live in the home. After all one of key reasons you build is so that you can live in the house that best suits you.
When you are designing your home, you might want it set up as a two bedroom home with a home office, and two living spaces, however installing a wardrobe in the home office space allows it to be easily converted into a third bedroom when you wish to sell, particularly useful as three bedroom homes are much easier to sell than two. Additionally a second lounge space that could be converted into a formal dining area would be useful for appealing to the home entertainer.

Additionally if your home situation changes and you need to the space as a bedroom or short or long term having an extra bathroom will be a real benefit.
Ensuring that you future proof your home will also pay dividends when you choose to sell. You may not choose to have wi-fi connected, or an audio system throughout the home, or other tech gadgets or functionality but your buyer might, so having these things included in the build for future use will also be an added bonus, particularly if it means the new owners don't have to retro-fit these things.
When it comes to decor whilst it's important to make sure it reflects your personality, choosing to express this on items such as walls and furniture is easier to replace than tiling, or carpets. You can accent your bathroom with coloured towels and accessories rather than choosing a strong colour for the floors or walls.
