Black Friday Real Estate? Really?

When most people think of Black Friday they think of getting something at a big discount. Perhaps they are, but at what cost? Was it really worth waiting in line for hours? Maybe so, you must give up your time in order to save money. During this time period home shopping tends to fall to the back of many home buyers' minds. Up in snowy areas the weather might also have something to do with it, but if you live in the south or west, this is where you may very well get a deal yourself. Not so much at a discount, but easier and quicker perhaps.

Over the years I have worked in real estate there is a little known secret regarding that time period between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. There are fewer home shoppers than normal while all the listings are still there. What does that mean for you if you are looking to buy? Less competition and more opportunity for you to get that offer accepted on the home of your dreams. In a difficult buyer's market, this could mean the difference between signing another year lease on that apartment you are stuck in and a 30 day closing with moving day on New Years Eve.

Experienced agents understand the home buyers during this period are generally very serious and more intent on getting into a home quickly. While most everyone else is looking for presents and caught up in the holiday time period, serious home buyers are making offers and closing transactions.

If you have been seriously looking and have just decided to take a break on looking at homes and making offers because of the holidays, think again because while you take a break, someone else might just sneak in that one offer on that one house. That one offer you just missed could have very well made you the 'winning offer' on that house you always wanted.

The only problem I can see that could be an issue is for bank owned property specifically as it can be difficult to get the bank's asset managers to respond on offers in a reasonable time so in this case it may not be beneficial for those investors or those specifically looking for REO property to take advantage of this unique time period for buying real estate.
