Nestled in the Columbia Valley, between the Rocky and Purcell Mountains, sits a small, humble town named Invermere. Established as a trading post in 1810, Invermere slowly grew into a modest but profitable town that is now an oft-sought destination for not only travellers, but homeowners as well. Most people who purchase Invermere real estate generally focus on seasonal condominiums or cabins, places to stay during summer or winter holidays; however, Invermere is a town for all seasons.
Back in its trading-post days, Invermere was known first as Copper City and then as Canterbury. Finally, the name "Invermere" was chosen in 1909, derived from the Scottish words 'inver' ("out of the mouth") and 'mere' ("lake"); a fitting name, as the town sits along the northern side of Windermere Lake, giving the residents a constant view of its' crystalline waters. Because the lake is nestled between two mountain ranges, strong winds occur regularly in summer, allowing windsurfers to breeze along its' surface with ease. Despite being in the mountains, the lake is warm, so swimming is open during spring, summer, and fall; when the lake freezes in winter, the snow is cleared for skating.
More and more people are drawn to purchasing Invermere real estate because of the town's unique location. The town is a mere half hour away from both the world-renowned Radium Hot Springs and the famous Panorama Ski Resort. For the adventurous, Whitewater rafting tours can be booked in town, and nearby Panorama offers snowmobile tours and cross-country skiing in winter, and trail rides and mountain biking during summer. For those who just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and relax in the calm serenity of the mountains, there is no shortage of คอนโด camp grounds, hiking trails and fishing lakes, and the entrance to Kootenay National Park is a mere 15 minutes away.
If you prefer a golf club in your hand while you are relaxing, the Eagle Ranch Golf Resort is a spectacular 18-hole course located right in Invermere-with six other courses just a short drive away. And if you want something truly spectacular, you can book a scenic flight at the Invermere Airport and soar over snow-capped mountain ranges, glaciers and mountain lakes in either a Cessna, sailplane, ultra-light or helicopter. At ground level, Invermere also has many shops and attractions, such as the Valley Pioneer Museum, where visitors can learn about the Columbia Valley's rich history; Bavin Glass Works, which sells many beautiful hand-blown glass ornaments and does glassblowing demonstrations daily; and the Wings Over the Rockies Bird Festival and the Fall Fair, which are held every September. Because of all these great amenities, you would think that Invermere real estate would be catered only for the supremely rich and wealthy. However, there are many affordable purchasing options. Houses range from $279,000 and up, and condominiums start at $27,500. Considering the countless benefits of the town and its surrounding area, its rich history and breathtaking scenery, there really is no wrong choice when purchasing Invermere real estate.
