Log Cabin Construction Research

Before constructing your dream log cabin home, there are a number of factors to consider. The best way to address them is through lots of research. This article will summarize the most important factors to address.

Money- Draw up a budget and determine how much money you will have and/or be able to borrow to purchase the house/property.

Location- Have you bought property yet? This is, in my opinion, the number one decision. My wife and I bought property in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. We had looked at a number of properties but this one had gorgeous views and was priced within our target. I can confidently say that we will enjoy the location for the rest of our lives. I hope you find the same excitement. I would be happy living in a tent on this property.

Home Plan- Log home companies will provide you with a slew of home plans. However, they rarely are built to the specs in their marketing material. Pick out a general layout that you like. Get some ballpark prices for your modifications to their base plans. If prices are not within your limit, find out from the company how you can modify your plan to reduce cost. Your desires must be constrained by cost.

Choosing a manufacturer, builder/contractor- Decide whether you want to be general contractor on one extreme or only customer on the other. Log home manufacturers can provide log cabin kits or act as general contractor and finish your cabin from soup to nuts. Cost is the variable. In any case, choose or accept contractors that have long experience building log cabins. Log homes are different. Treat them that way. Evaluate all your contractors based on customer recommendations. 1. Research, research, research. 2. Get personally comfortable with your contractors. 3. Get references and call or go see customer homes

Financing- Log homes are different. Look for lenders experienced with log cabins. You can get construction financing as well as long term (once completed) mortgage loans for log cabins. Keep in mind that appraisals are important to lenders. The appraiser will need comps in your area. The more log cabins in your location, the better.

Building Hint- It is cheaper to build up than out. Heating second floors is also more efficient.

Sweat Equity- Anything you can do on your own will save money. I plan to cut down the trees on my property as needed. I will be sealing/staining the outside of my home. I will do my own landscaping as well. I'm not a builder but บ้านมือสอง กรุงเทพ I can do a lot of things just fine.
